The last Grand Slam of the year, the US Open 2024 is underway with the biggest names in tennis showcasing their skills in New York City. Novak Djokovic is the defending champion in the men’s singles division while the women’s singles category title is with the home girl Coco Gauff. The tournament is special for Djokovic as a triumph here would make him the only player in the world to win an unprecedented 25 Grand Slams.
The tournament proper of the US Open 2024 officially began on Monday, August 26 and will finish on Sunday, September 8.
The US Open is one of the oldest tennis tournaments in the world, and the 2024 season is the 144th edition of the prestigious event. The tournament takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center inside the Flushing Meadows Corona Park in New York.
The tournament moved to the Meadows in 1978 and has been a hard court tournament since then. The United States Tennis Association (USTA) organises the tournament.
Among men, Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer have the most titles, five each, at Flushing Meadows. Federer won the tournament from 2004 to 2008, making him the player with the most consecutive US Open titles. Serena Williams is tied with Chris Evert in the list of women with most US Open titles in the Open era.
