Dhanteras marks the beginning of Diwali, which is once again a significant festival for all of us. It symbolizes new beginnings! On this day, we prepare ‘Aate ka halwa’ as an offering (‘bhog’). Typically, we purchase something new every year to celebrate the sacred occasion of Dhanteras. It could be new utensils, jewelry, or even a gold coin—anything that holds special value in our lives and brings positivity and prosperity.
Since my childhood in Jaipur, I have seen my family celebrating Dhanteras with an abundance of sweets and making valuable investments. These investments could take the form of new utensils, jewellery, or even a gold coin. I am proud to say that in our Indian culture, even the smallest items hold great significance, and the festival of Dhanteras is no exception. This year, I plan to invest in a gold chain on this auspicious occasion.

People traditionally buy something valuable on Dhanteras, and health is considered the most valuable treasure, the greatest wealth. Within our family, we exchange gifts related to health and fitness, seeking blessings from Lord Dhanwantari for good health.
Dhanteras has always held great significance in my life. I recall buying a one-gram gold coin on Dhanteras, as it’s a time for cleansing and renewal. It’s when we clean our homes and acquire new utensils, so I always make it a point to buy some new ones on Dhanteras. Gold is also a part of the tradition. However, speaking of this Dhanteras, it’s going to be extra special for me, as my family and I are planning to purchase a new car. I’m extremely excited about this addition to our celebrations.
