Fourth Place Heartbreaks Continue For India At Paris Olympics As Mirabai Chanu Misses Medal
Mirabai Chanu Saikhom added to India's fourth-place heartbreaks at the Paris Olympics as the Tokyo Games silver medalist finished fourth in the women's 49kg weightlifting competition.
The 29-year-old Indian weightlifting sensation, who clinched silver at the Tokyo Olympics, managed a total lift of 199kg (88kg+111kg) at the South Paris Arena. Despite her valiant effort, Chanu was unable to secure a podium finish.
It was 3kgs less than what she lifted at the Tokyo Olympics (202 kg) for a silver medal.
China's Hou Zhihui successfully defended her title with an impressive total of 206kg (89kg+117kg) and also set an Olympic Record, while Romania's Mihaela Cambei claimed the silver with a total of 205kg (93kg+112kg).
While Surodchana Khambao bagged the bronze for her effort of 200kg (88kg+112kg).
