I like to bowl first. The wicket has moisture, so will help our seam bowlers. We have a very good combination with seam bowlers and allrounders, we had a very good preparation. Shan Masood: We were going to bowl first as well, we have never played in Pindi in August before. It has rained as well, but if we bat well, towards the end of the game with the cracks, it will be tough to bat. Test cricket is about picking 20 wickets and when we went to Australia that was one of our targets, our bowlers did well there and it's about continuing that momentum with 7 of 9 Tests at home and we would like to do that. We have been very clear, we have communicated with players, it removes the uncertainty a bit. It's a proud moment, privilege and nothing is guaranteed in sport and it's an exciting opportunity to push for a place in the WTC final.

Saud Shakeel (28) and Saim Ayub (42) have taken Pakistan to 81/3 at Tea on day 1 of the First Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. The hosts were reeling at 16/3 but Shakeel and Ayub have stitched an unbeaten stand of 62 runs. For Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam took two wickets.

The fourth-wicket partnership between Saud Shakeel and Saim Ayub continues to grow in confidence in the post-tea session. Ayub gets to his half-century off 76 balls. The Pakistan opener was able to weather the new-ball storm and is now cashing in, when conditions are a bit better for batting. Shakeel scoring runs at a fast clip from the other end, too.

Just when it looked like the partnership would seize control, Bangladesh broke it. Saim Ayub fell for a well-made 56 runs - Hasan Mahmud having him caught in the slips - and the fourth-wicket stand tallied 98 runs. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is now in the middle alongside Saud Shakeel, as the hosts look to rebuild again.

Saud Shakeel watchfully plays out the 41st over, bowled by Shakib Al Hasan. And it turns out to be the last over of the day, as the light meter comes out and the reading is deemed unsuitable for further play. Shakeel is unbeaten on 57 (92 balls) and giving him company is the enterprising Mohammad Rizwan (24 not out off 31 balls).

It was a fascinating day of Test cricket, that began with a rain delay and then the Bangladesh bowlers making the new ball talk. A resistant fourth-wicket stand between Shakeel and Saim Ayub followed, and now we have Rizwan holding fort alongside Shakeel.
