The Honour Roll
According to the World Heritage Council, a heritage site is one that includes:
Monuments:
Groups of buildings: connected buildings because of their architecture, their homogeneity or their landscape.
Sites: works of man, natural wonders and a combination of both, archaeological sites which are of historical, aesthetic, ethnological and anthropological value.
It is an honour to feature on this list but certain rigorous standards have to be maintained to remain on it. Also, foreign tourists target these sites, thus boosting Indian tourism. Hence, the need to keep up to the required standards. India has the following 17 heritage sites on the list:
