A 42-year-old woman and her teenage daughter were buried alive by a landslide in a village here on Saturday following incessant rainfall in the Budhakedar area of Tehri Garhwal district, officials said.

The bodies of Sarita Devi and 15-year-old Ankita were retrieved during a search operation carried out by police and SDRF personnel in Toli village, according to District Magistrate (DM) Mayur Dikshit.

A retaining wall behind their house collapsed amid heavy rains in the early hours of the day and they were buried under debris, he said, adding that two other members of the family were rescued, news agency PTI reported.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane till July 28, saying that "Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places".

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the state of Gujarat for July 28, Sunday.

"Isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely over Gujarat region on July 28," the IMD bulletin read.

As heavy rains continue to batter the hilly areas of Uttarakhand's Garhwal division, the water level of the Ganga river in Rishikesh is also on the rise, news agency ANI reported.

The four-storey building, which had developed cracks and collapsed amid heavy rainfall in the wee hours of Saturday, left three persons dead and two others injured. Officials said that two persons had been rescued from under the rubble.

The national capital on Saturday received moderate rainfall, with the minimum temperature at 28.2 degrees Celsius.

The IMD said that the maximum temperature is likely to settle around 34 degrees Celsius.

According to the India Meteorological Department, a low-pressure area has been formed over the North Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh and the West Bengal coast. The weather office also added that the monsoon 'trough line' is in its normal state.

Due to this, the monsoon is likely to remain active in many places in eastern Rajasthan for the next one week, with rain activities expected to continue in most places, it said.

Tropical storm Gaemi brought rain to central China on Saturday as it moved inland after making landfall at typhoon strength on the country's east coast on Thursday night.

The storm felled trees, flooded streets and damaged crops in China but there were no reports of casualties or major damage. Eight people died in Taiwan, which Gaemi crossed at typhoon strength before heading over open waters to China.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted generally cloudy skies with moderate rain during the day in Delhi today. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 34 degrees Celsius.

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 28.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average, the India Meteorological Department said on Saturday.

Officials said extremely intense rainfall of 93 mm was recorded over the Delhi University area on Friday.

A cloudburst in Uttarakhand's Tehri Garhwal triggered a flash flood-like situation in the area. The Bal Ganga and Dharam Ganga rivers flowing through this area are in spate. Road connectivity to dozens of villages in the upper regions has been completely cut off.

A flood-like situation has come about in Chhattisgarh's Ganeshpur village near Baloda Bazar due to the breach in Dharchula dam.

Pawan Joshi, NDRF official reportedly said, "We received information about the flood yesterday evening. Our team reached here from Bhilai at night. We have rescued 3 people with the help of SDRF who were stuck in the flood...A team of 36 have come here for the rescue. We have brought 4 boats also..."

Water receded from the residential areas of Navsari after the water level in the Purna River went below the alarming mark in Gujarat.

A resident of Navsari, Harshit Jain told ANI, "Every year normal life is affected due to waterlogging...The water level had increased up to six feet...I have faced a loss of almost Rs 1 lakh due to the waterlogging situation..."

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange alerts for the following places:

• East Rajasthan (26th-28th July 2024)

• Madhya Maharashtra (28th July 2024)

Heavy overnight rain flooded the Balganga river in the Boodha Kedar area of Uttarakhand's Tehri Garhwal district with the river water gushing into homes, inundating fields and damaging roads and bridges.

According to District Magistrate Mayur Dikshit, heavy rain lashed the Jakhana, Toli and Genwali areas around midnight, causing a flash flood in the Balganga, which inundated roadside fields and homes.

Several people reportedly are feared trapped after the three-storey building collapsed in Navi Mumbai's Shahbaz village on Saturday. Police, fire brigade and NDRF present at the spot, while rescue operations are underway.

Monsoon is likely to remain active for the next one week, the weather office here said, even as several places in Rajasthan witnessed heavy rainfall on Friday.

Till 5.30 pm, Bharatpur recorded 35.3 mm of rainfall, followed by Banasthali (17 mm), Chittorgarh (8 mm), Dabok in Udaipur (7.6 mm), Bhilwara (5 mm), Fatehpur (4.5 mm), Jaipur (3.8 mm) and Anta in Baran (2 mm), according to the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur.

More than a hundred tourists were evacuated to safety on Friday morning after they got stranded following heavy rainfall in Gondar on the trek route to the Madmaheshwar temple when a swollen river washed away a pedestrian bridge.

State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) officials said the bridge on the Markandeya river was washed away after heavy rains lashed the area late Thursday night and 106 tourists got stuck.

More than 5,800 people were relocated after the Panchganga river started flowing above the danger mark in western Maharashtra's Kolhapur district, an official said on Friday.

The water level of Panchaganga river at Rajaram Wier was 46.4 feet at noon, well above the danger mark of 43 feet, he said.

Talking to PTI, Kolhapur collector Amol Yedge said the district administration has started relocating people from the affected areas of Sutarwada and Kumbharwada in the city. The administration has relocated people from Chikhli and Ambewadi in Karveer tehsil and some villages in Hatkalangane, Shirol and Ichalkarangi tehsils, he said.

More than 2,500 people were shifted out of their homes by the NDRF teams as several villages were inundated due to heavy rains in south Gujarat, officials said on Friday.

At least 2,200 people were relocated from villages and low-lying areas in Navsari, while 500 persons were eneighboringneighbouring Tapi district following heavy rains in 24 hours, they said.

"Purna River passing through Navsari district has been flowing at 28 feet, well above the danger mark of 23 feet, due to heavy rains in the district and its upstream basin in 24 hours," Navsari collector Kshipra Agre told reporters here.

IMD has issued an orange alert for Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune and Satara districts of Maharashtra for Saturday, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy showers, while Mumbai saw a lull in rain activity on Friday.

According to the IMD, an orange alert has also been issued for Chandrapur, Gondia, and Gadchiroli districts. The districts with an orange alert are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places.

After nearly two days of incessant rainfall, Mumbai was largely rain-free on Friday. However, predicting heavy showers in isolated areas of the city, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the financial capital and adjoining Thane district for Saturday.
