During a ceremony marking the foundation stone laying and inauguration of 303 development initiatives, the UP Chief Minister emphasized the pressing need for urban development, underscoring its pivotal role in pushing India towards economic superpower status.
Yogi Adityanath, who represents the Gorakhpur urban assembly constituency, laid the foundation stones for 189 development projects and inaugurated 114 others. As part of this event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation (GMC) and the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to establish a plant for converting garbage into charcoal.
Addressing the gathering, Adityanath stressed the significance of effective solid waste management in realizing the smart city vision. He commended the GMC's collaboration with NTPC as a significant step towards this goal. He highlighted that the NTPC plant would transform municipal waste into charcoal, serving as an electricity generation source.
The Chief Minister expressed concerns about the improper disposal of solid waste, resulting in litter and garbage piles throughout the city. He noted that this had hindered the city's development. Adityanath emphasized that the NTPC plant would enable the municipal corporation to save Rs 600 crore over 25 years, which could be directed toward further development projects.
In addition to his official duties, Adityanath also participated in a symbolic 'annaprashan' for children, offering them well wishes for a healthy and promising future.
