Telangana Receives Heavy Rainfall, IMD Issues Orange Alert; Schools In Hyderabad Remain Shut For The Day
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Telangana and said that the state might receive?115.6 to 204.4 mm rainfall on September 5. In view of the forecast of rain, the Hyderabad district collector issued an order declaring Tuesday a holiday for all educational institutions
IMD has posted the alert on X, formerly known as Twitter where they have mentioned that Telangana might receive?115.6 to 204.4 mm rainfall on September 5. They have advised the people living in the state to avoid areas that are prone to waterlogging and stay away from vulnerable structures.
Further, IMD has provided an account of the rainfall received in the different parts of Telangana. In a post on X, IMD said, "Medchal and Gandhari received 14cm of rainfall each, followed by Kondapur and Hakimpet receiving 12cm of rain, Narsapur, and Sangareddy received 11cm of rain each."
Schools closed for water logging in Hyderabad
In view of the forecast of rain, the Hyderabad district collector issued an order declaring Tuesday a holiday for all educational institutions, even as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's staff are clearing waterlogging in low lying areas.
The city has been witnessing heavy rains since the early hours.?
"In light of the heavy rainfall forecast in Hyderabad, the government has declared today a holiday for all educational institutions in Hyderabad. Stay indoors and stay safe," the Hyderabad collector posted a message on X.
The GHMC Commissioner requested people not to step out of their homes unless it is very essential for the next few hours as the civic teams of more than 3,000 personnel are on the field to ensure waterlogged areas are cleared across the city.
The?GHMC Commissioner also posted a helpline number on X for the residents to contact the authorities in case of any crisis.
BJP leader charges Telangana government for waterlogging
Bharatiya Janata Party National Vice President DK Aruna took to X to slam the Telangana government for waterlogging in the streets of Hyderabad. She wrote, "City of #Hyderabad is submerged under water after heavy rain. The state government's failure to take pro-active measures and poor infrastructure have just added to the issues faced by the people. IMD has issued an orange and yellow alert, but unfortunately BRS government is least concerned to effectively address the problem of water logging." She also shared a video of the inundated streets in Hyderabad.
