Amid raging ethnic violence in Manipur, members of the newly-formed opposition alliance 'I.N.D.I.A' met President Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum?seeking her intervention into the issue.?

The opposition parties are seeking the President's intervention in the matter, claiming that violence in the BJP-ruled northeastern state is continuing unabated.
After meeting with the President, LoP Rajya Sabha and?Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge told the media, "We briefed the President, especially on atrocities against women, rehabilitation and other conditions in Manipur,...Our main demand is that PM should visit Manipur and take steps towards restoring peace in the state."

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm on Wednesday as opposition members continued with their protests on the Manipur issue.
It has been reported that protests began as soon as the House met for the day when many opposition members were in the Well of the House shouting slogans and displaying placards during Question Hour.
Opposition's recommendations
The bloc urged the President to?nominate?two Manipuri women to Rajya Sabha which will help rectify 'grievous harm' inflicted on women of state.?
Kharge had earlier sought time from President Murmu on behalf of the opposition parties. Continuing their relentless demand of a comprehensive statement from Prime Minister Modi, the opposition parties sought the President's intervention, claiming that violence in the BJP-ruled northeastern state is continuing unabated. The delegation?also raised the issue of violence in Haryana with the President.?
Few days ago, a delegation from the opposition alliance visited violence-hit Manipur to take stock of the situation on the ground. Some members from the delegation also met with the President today.?
