Nationalist Congress Party leader Mohammed Faizal P P was disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha on Wednesday after the Kerala High Court rejected his plea for suspension of his conviction in a murder case.

A?Lok Sabha Secretariat bulletin stated, "In view of order dated 03.10.2023 of the Hon'ble High Court of Kerala, Shri Mohammed Faizal P.P., Member of Lok Sabha representing the Lakshadweep Parliamentary Constituency of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, stands disqualified from the membership of Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction, i.e. 11th January, 2023."

This marks Faizal's second disqualification as a Lok Sabha member.

His initial disqualification occurred on January 25, shortly after a sessions court in Kavaratti convicted him and three others of attempted murder against P Salih, resulting in a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence for all three.

Faizal's disqualification was later rescinded on March 29, following the Kerala High Court's suspension of his conviction. However, in August 2023, the Supreme Court overturned the Kerala High Court's decision, in response to an appeal filed by the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
