Rao emphasized the absence of current restrictions while underscoring the importance of public vigilance and precautionary measures. He clarified, "There are no restrictions as of now (on New Year celebrations and other activities). Nowhere in the country or the world is there any restriction, despite the prevalence of the JN.1 subvariant everywhere."
The Health Minister further explained that the increase in COVID testing may lead to a rise in reported cases, citing the recent TAC meeting and expressing the need for the cabinet sub-committee to evaluate their suggestions before deciding on further actions.
Addressing concerns raised by Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka, who accused the state government of inaction, Rao defended Karnataka's proactive approach. He stated, "No government in the country has been as proactive as the Karnataka government in handling the COVID situation, taking precautions, and making necessary arrangements."
Rejecting the allegation of negligence, Rao highlighted the adherence to Central government guidelines and TAC recommendations. He urged against politicizing the situation and emphasized the responsible handling of the crisis by the state government.
In response to Ashoka's call for a mock drill and operational checks on oxygen plants, Rao assured that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed the government to learn from past mistakes and ensure a comprehensive and effective response to the evolving situation.
