Though the Bar Council of India on Wednesday announced to withdraw the strike, the lawyers in all of six district courts in Delhi abstained from work, protesting against the clash with the police at Tis Hazari court on November 2.

The BCI had demanded the arrest of the guilty cops within a week and asked the lawyers to resume to their duties from Thursday. However, lawyers welcomed litigants with flowers at the entrance of Saket district court complex as they abstained from work for the fourth consecutive day.

Litigants and police were allowed to go inside the courts' premises but the advocates did not attend the hearings.

Litigants have been allowed to attend their matters in courtrooms and proxy counsel are also appearing to take dates in cases, advocate D S Kasana, general secretary of the coordination committee of All District Courts Bar Associations, said.

"We have also arranged for lunch for around 1,000 people including lawyers and clients. We are protesting peacefully. The private guards of the Bar are taking care of the security today," he said.

R K Wadhwa, chairman of New Delhi Bar Association, said litigants have been allowed inside and proxy counsel are appearing at Patiala House court.

"We have not stopped the police from entering the court's premises and do their duty. They are not coming for their own reasons," he said.

The lawyers have filed a plea in the High Court, seeking action against Delhi Police officials for agitating in public and sitting on a 'dharna'.

The High Court will hear the petition on Friday plea which also seeks against senior police officials for statements on social media when the matter is sub-judice.
