As the Central Water Commission issues a forecast predicting a surge in the Yamuna's water level, the Delhi government has taken swift action to ensure the safety of its residents. With the river's water level currently below the danger mark, authorities are vigilant, anticipating the level to rise further in the coming hours.

As of Friday noon, the Yamuna's water level in Delhi stood at 204.95 meters, below the critical threshold of 205.33 meters. However, the forecast projects that the water level may reach 205.45 meters between 10 pm and 12 midnight on Friday, with the possibility of further increases thereafter, as reported by PTI.

In response to the forecast, the Delhi government has directed officials to maintain constant vigilance in vulnerable areas and take immediate action at critical points. Authorities have been instructed to warn residents living close to river embankments and make necessary arrangements to shift them to safer locations.

The situation in Delhi has been tense since the Yamuna reached an all-time high of 208.66 meters on July 13. While the water level had receded below the danger mark for a brief period, it once again breached the threshold, causing concern for the safety of thousands of residents.

Adding to the worries, the India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh until July 22. This forecast raises concerns about the potential impact on the Yamuna's water level in Delhi.

In the aftermath of the floods, more than 27,000 people have been evacuated from their homes. The consequences have been devastating, with significant losses incurred in terms of property, businesses, and livelihoods, running into crores.
