Cyclone Biparjoy: Warnings Of Flood, Power Disruption By IMD, Trains Cancelled

The India Meteorological Department has warned of extensive damages in parts of Gujarat while isolated places will be received heavy rainfall. To reduce further damage and risk of life around 95 trains have been cancelled by the Western Railways.

India Meteorological Department has warned the Biparjoy cyclone to be a very severe cyclonic storm and when it enters the coasts of Gujarat might flood the low-lying areas of?Kachchh, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar and Morbi districts.

According to the reports, the cyclone has become less intense than before but experts have said that it could pick up the pace before the landfall and create severe damage in the coastal areas.

According to recent updates, 20 electric poles and several kutcha houses have already been damaged. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi has told the media about the situation there.

Reportedly, the landfall of the cyclone is expected to occur in Mandvi in?Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan on June 15. The storm is expected to damage the kutcha houses while also uprooting communication and power lines. It will reportedly also affect crops and plantations. Gujarat's?Kachchh, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Morbi, Junagarh and Rajkot districts are expected to face these damages.

Parts of Gujarat will also have mild to heavy rainfall on June 15. Isolated places like?Porbandar, Rajkot, Morbi and Junagarh districts might receive very heavy rainfall says the reports.?

The latest update from IMD on Twitter says, "Cyclone Warning for Saurashtra & Kutch Coasts: RED MESSAGE. VSCS BIPARJOY at 0530IST of today over NE Arabian Sea near lat 21.9N & long 66.3E, about 280km WSW of Jakhau Port (Gujarat), 290km WSW of Devbhumi Dwarka. To cross near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by evening of 15June as VSCS."

Several trains have been cancelled so far as the storm could disrupt communication and travel. Reportedly the Western Railways has cancelled around 95 trains that depart, pass through or arrive at coastal regions of Gujarat. Some of the trains are Bhuj Express, Bhuj-Kutch Express, Okha Express, Rajkot Express and several others.
