With the Supreme Court’s landmark judgment on Section 377, India on Thursday joined the league of more than 120 countries that have decriminalised homosexuality.
Countries Where Homsexuality Is Not A Crime
United Kingdom Parliament had legalised homosexuality in England and Wales way back in 1967.
It took 158 years for India to do away with the colonial law that was introduced in the country during the British Raj. United Kingdom Parliament had legalised homosexuality in England and Wales way back in 1967.
Scotland legalised homosexuality in 1980. The US Supreme Court ruled that same sex marriages were legal in June 2015. Nepal legalised homosexuality in 2007.
According to an annual report by the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA), 72 countries and territories worldwide continue to criminalise same-sex relationships. There are eight countries- such as Iran, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen- in which homosexuality can result in a death penalty
