Male Canadian lawmakers were seen wearing pink-coloured high heels in support of the ‘Hope in High Heels’ campaign to encourage men to help combat domestic abuse and violence against women.

Videos went viral on social media platforms showing male politicians parading in hot pink high heels during the annual event on the Hill organized by Halton Women’s Place, an Ontario-based organisation that offers shelter and support to women and children in crisis. The event was hotels by local MPs Karina Gould (Burlington), Pam Damoff (Oakville North-Burlington) and Adam van Koeverden (Milton).

The ‘Hope in High Heels’ campaign is an annual walkathon to raise awareness, especially among men and boys, to be a part of the solution in ending violence against women. During the event, men show support for women experiencing domestic violence by wearing hot pink heels.

According to a WHO report, one in every three women experiences physical or sexual violence in their life.

"Violence against women is still prevalent in our society," Canadian Transport Minister Omar Alghabra tweeted Thursday, sharing a video of the event.

However, instead of receiving applause, the lawmakers were trolled by many social media users who felt that wearing heels was not an effective way of combating violence against women.

"Again, Canada is not a real country," tweeted Jack Posobiec, senior editor of HumanEvents.com.

Meanwhile, commentator Bernie Spofforth said, “I'm so embarrassed for you this actually made my scalp tingle."

The "Hope in High Heels" event came days after a transgender woman in Ontario, Canada, was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in a shelter home.

Last November, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also displayed his wokeness in a similar fashion when he made an appearance on the ‘Drag Race: Canada vs the World’ reality TV show. His appearance had received mixed reactions from social media.
