'The Crown' Costumes And Props Set To Hit The Auction Block After Royal Drama Wraps
Costumes, props, and sets from the popular Netflix series "The Crown," which depicted the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, will be on display in London before going up for auction, offering fans a chance to own a piece of royal drama history.
Over 450 items from the Netflix series, centered around the rule of Britain's former monarch, Queen Elizabeth, will be available for public viewing at Bonhams starting Thursday in anticipation of the "The Crown Auction" scheduled for February 7th.
The popular series, known for its fictionalized dialogues and storylines that sparked controversy, concluded last month after six seasons. Throughout its run, actresses Claire Foy, Olivia Colman, and Imelda Staunton depicted Queen Elizabeth at various points in her reign.
Among the items showcased are costumes worn by the main characters, including those worn by Elizabeth Debicki, who played the role of the late Princess Diana in the series.
A replica of the queen's Coronation ordaining dress, Imperial Mantle, and the red Coronation robe worn by Foy in season one is estimated to be worth between 20,000 and 30,000 pounds ($25,449 - $38,173). Additionally, a black off-the-shoulder dress worn by Debicki in season five, inspired by Diana's famous "Revenge Dress," is priced at 8,000 to 12,000 pounds ($10,179 - $15,269)
Also available for purchase is what Bonhams claims to be the world's only reproduction of the Gold State Coach, with an estimated price range of 30,000 to 50,000 pounds ($38,173 - $63,622). In adition to that, there is a reproduction of the Coronation Chair, which is expected to be priced between 10,000 and 20,000 pounds ($12,724 - $25,449).
Also among the items on offer are replicas of the Buckingham Palace wrought-iron gates, with an estimated value of 6,000 to 8,000 pounds ($7,634 - $10,179), and a recreation of the Number 10 Downing Street facade, priced between 20,000 and 30,000 pounds ($25,449 - $38,173).
Charlie Thomas, the director of house sales and private and iconic collections at Bonhams, mentioned, "Lots in the sale are from all six seasons." While Queen Elizabeth was the central figure, Thomas emphasized that "the sale features all of the main characters from all six seasons and it's ... a real love letter to the show."
Around 150 lots will be auctioned live on February 7th. An additional 300 items are available for bidding in an online auction that runs from January 11th to February 8th.
The funds generated from the live auction will be dedicated to the creation of a scholarship program at the National Film and Television School, an institution with training facilities located throughout the United Kingdom.
