‘I Sing the Songs In The Shower’: Zac Efron Gives ‘High School Musical’ Shout-Out During Walk Of Fame Speech
Zac Efron, commemorated with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, nostalgically shares his enduring bond with 'High School Musical,' expressing gratitude and honoring late co-star Matthew Perry during the heartfelt ceremony.
“I still think about it every day — I sing the songs in the shower,” expressed the 36-year-old actor, speaking to an enthusiastic audience as he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Zac Efron also expressed gratitude to “High School Musical” director Kenny Ortega and producer Bill Borden, who were present at the street-side ceremony.
“You guys were both instrumental in giving me my start in ‘High School Musical,’ and for that I’m just eternally, eternally grateful,” he said.
The popular TV film "High School Musical," penned by Peter Barsocchini, premiered on January 20, 2006. The storyline revolves around a group of high school students auditioning for roles in their school's upcoming musical. The film's significant success led to two sequel films, with the third installment premiering in theaters across the nation.
Following Efron's admission that he continues to sing songs from the musical movies, such as "Breaking Free" and "We're All in This Together," while in the shower, a voice off-camera enthusiastically exclaimed, "Me too!"
In response, Efron exclaimed, "Go Wildcats!"
In another part of his speech, Efron honored the memory of the late actor Matthew Perry, with whom he shared the screen in the 2009 film "17 Again."
“I really also want to mention someone that’s not here today, and that’s Matthew Perry," Efron stated, describing the actor as "kind and generous."
Reflecting back on their time together, he expressed, “Collaborating with him and [director] Burr Steers was so much fun and it really did propel me and motivate me in so many ways. It really pushed me into the next chapter of my career, and for that, thank you so much, Matthew. Thinking about you a lot today.”
During Monday's ceremony, the actor, set to star alongside Jeremy Allen White and Harris Dickinson in the A24 wrestling drama "The Iron Claw" directed by Sean Durkin, became the 2,767th entertainment figure to be honored with a star on the Walk of Fame, according to an official press release.
“I just want to thank everyone for coming out today,” Efron concluded. “You have no idea how much this means to me. I do this all for you. Every day. This really is the biggest honor. This day means so much to me and to share it with all of you is just a dream come true.”
