Former Delhi Congress Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely joined BJP days after quitting the grand old party.

Congress' Puri Lok Sabha candidate Sucharita Mohanty withdrew from the contest citing that she was denied funds from the party.

PM Modi held rallies in Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh where he attacked the opposition of doing injustice to people of the country during their rule as urged the voters to make him the prime minister for the third time.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday evening for darshan and pooja, followed by a roadshow.

The visit is expected to begin around 7 pm.

Congress on Saturday night named Jay Narayan Patnaik as its candidate for the Puri Lok Sabha seat in Odisha after Sucharita Mohanty pulled out of the race, claiming that the party denied her funds for her campaign.

In a statement issued by Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, the party said its president Mallikarjun Kharge approved the candidature of Patnaik in place of Mohanty.

The "anarchy" of the YSRCP's five-year government will end in 10 days, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu said on Saturday.

Addressing a public meeting in NTR district's Nuziveedu as part of his Prajagalam election campaign tour, Naidu also labelled Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy a "gang leader of robbers and landgrabbers".

"The anarchy that the state is now facing will end in another 10 days … We are coming as an alliance to save the people from these conspirators," the leader of opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly said.

Elections for the 175-member assembly and the 25 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh will be held simultaneously on May 13. The votes will be counted on June 4.

Nominations of 301 candidates have been found valid after scrutiny in 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra that will go to polls in the fifth phase on May 20, officials said on Saturday.

After scrutiny, Dhule has 22 candidates, Dindori 15, Nashik 36, Palghar 13, Bhiwandi 36, Kalyan 30, Thane 25, Mumbai North 21, Mumbai North West 23, Mumbai North East 20, Mumbai North Central 28, Mumbai South Central 15 and Mumbai South 17.

Sunday is the last date of withdrawal of papers.

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday claimed that the BJP wants to change the Constitution, and warned that the "country will rise" if that happens.

Central agencies had become "servants"of the BJP, he said at a rally at Dharashiv in central Maharashtra, adding that after the results on June 4, those who "troubled" his party men will be made to "pay with interest."

"The BJP wants to change the Constitution. The day they try to change the Constitution, the entire country will rise (against the attempt)," Thackeray said.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi once again advocated for a caste survey and an economic review to ascertain who possesses how much wealth and asserted that this will be the first task of the INDIA bloc if it is voted to power.

Addressing students at "Nyay Manch - Ab India Bolega" in the national capital, Gandhi said an INDIA bloc government will also abolish the Agniveer scheme and compensate the 1.5 lakh youngsters who were selected but not given entry into the armed forces.

"The first step is a caste census along with an economic survey and it will ascertain who possesses how much wealth in the country," he said.

People making up 90 per cent of the country's population do not even know their strength and are unaware as to how much of India's wealth they possess, he added.

"They say that they have almost 50 per cent of the population but they do not know how much wealth they have. We are going to conduct a caste census and the OBCs (Other Backward Classes) will know how much they have in different fields and the truth will come out," Gandhi said.

Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee said his party was keen on an alliance with the Congress, for which he even went to meet Rahul Gandhi at his residence at 6 am.

Abhishek, the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and heir apparent to the party, asserted that Trinamool Congress candidates are the true representatives of the INDIA bloc in West Bengal.

"Had I not been serious, I would not have rushed to Rahul Gandhi's residence in Delhi at 6 am. We were willing to have an alliance with the Congress in Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal, and despite state Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's barbs at our party for months, we did not react for a long time," he said on Saturday.

"We gave Congress time till December but we could not wait indefinitely as we had to make preparations. Till December 31, 2023, not a single spokesperson of our party, including Mamata Banerjee, reacted to what Choudhury was saying," he added.

Banerjee, the MP of Diamond Harbour, said the seat-sharing talks failed because of the state Congress' belligerence.

Amid people questioning Congress for fielding a rather unknown figure for their key constituency in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma stated, "It was the decision of the party leadership because earlier it was not finalized who will contest from here... The thing is that now I will defeat Smriti Irani. This is a big statement I am making today... 'Mai koi Naukri nahi kar raha Gandhi Parivar ki'. I am a politician. I came here in 1983 through the Youth Congress. I don't take salary from Congress. I am a pure politician..."

Congress filed a complaint against BJP national president JP Nadda, BJP social media in-charge Amit Malviya, BJP state president BY Vijayendra over a video posted by BJP Karnataka on their social media for allegedly intimidating members of Schedule caste or tribe to not vote for a particular candidate with an intention to create feelings of enmity, hatred and ill-will against members of SC/ST community and violating model code of conduct by using animated video of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah by portraying Congress party as favouring a particular religion and suppressing members of SC/ST and OBC community.

A battle royal is raging between two women contestants of the BJP and Congress on diverse issues such as drinking water problem, unemployment and floods faced by people in Assam's most prestigious Guwahati Parliamentary constituency where polls are scheduled on May 7.

BJP's Bijuli Kalita Medhi and Congress candidate Mira Borthakur Goswami are locked in a direct contest with both making a debut in Lok Sabha polls and leaving no stone unturned to woo the over 20 lakh voters, with women marginally outnumbering men.

The Congress candidate is reaching out to the electorate in the nooks and corners of the constituency, comprising both urban and rural areas in the hills and plains, with promises of solving their immediate and long-standing problems while the BJP nominee is relying mainly on the strength of her party's achievement during the last ten years of rule at the Centre and eight in the state.

Altogether 15 candidates out of the 47 in the fray for the four Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam going to the polls on May 7 are 'crorepatis', with the richest being AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal contesting from the Dhubri seat.

The 'crorepati' candidates include two each from Congress and AGP, one each from BJP, AIUDF, Bodo Peoples' Front (BPF), United People's Party, Liberal (UPPL), Trinamool Congress, CPI(M) and Ekam Sanatn Bharat along with four independents, according to the affidavits filed by the contestants.

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), which is a part of the ruling NDA, asserted that it still opposes the CAA and will continue to pursue the case it has filed against the contentious law in the Supreme Court.

After the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was passed in Parliament, AGP had in December 2019 challenged the law in the apex court and demanded that the Brahmaputra Valley of Assam be excluded from the purview of the legislation.

NDA candidate from Munger and JD (U) leader Lalan Singh addressed an election rally in the constituency in Bihar on Sunday where he said, "I have done development work. We are asking for votes over development. The whole Nadikani and Chanan areas used to be drought affected. I arranged irrigation. It happened due to the blessings of the Bihar CM. He is ruling since 2005. He has done remarkable work in terms of roads, electricity, health, education and law and order. Now it is a pride to be called a 'Bihari'. Lalu-Rabri ruled for 15 years. Nobody used to come out after 4 pm here."

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar addressing an election rally in Munger for NDA candidate Lalan Singh, said, "I have received some complaints from here. We will be investigating it. We have been doing work since beginning. We will take action. I will not break the relationship with BJP again. There used to be no work prior to 2005. No body used to come out in evening. Now there is no communal tension. We worked for education and health."

He added, "Now there has been a lot of impetus on education. Girls would not study beyond 5th class. Many schools are opening. When girls pass Inter, we give 25,000 rupees and pass graduation, we give 50,000 rupees. In 2005, fertility rate was 4.3, now it is 2.9. More survey is being done. When the wife is Matric pass, it is 2, when Inter pass, it is 1.7. I want to facilitate their education."

While addressing a public meeting in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav says, "... He (Rahul Gandhi) himself does not know what he is going to do. From 2004 to 2014, the Congress government was running well but as soon as Rahul Gandhi was launched, that government fell... In 2019, he was launched again, he was also made the national president but only 52 (MPs) remained and he had to resign from the post."

After the event, speaking to reporters in Sagar, Sapre said, "PM Modi and CM Mohan Yadav have the agenda of development... I have joined the stream of development... The Congress does not have an agenda for the future. It has no hope for development in the future."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah while addressing a public meeting in Sri Sathyasai District, Andhra Pradesh, said, "Jagan Mohan Reddy has derailed the development train. Development is zero, investment is stagnant and unemployment is at its highest. Infrastructure projects are stalled but the industry of land mafias is running in full swing..."

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge while addressing a rally in Malda, West Bengal, said, "Unemployment has increased so much in 45 years but they are not worried about it... If we talk about unemployment, they say that Congress will make one buffalo out of two disappear. If we say that inflation has increased, do something, they say that we will snatch your land. On the increasing gap between the rich and the poor, they say that if Congress comes, it will loot everything... They collected money in the name of electoral bonds... You (BJP) came to power by saying that Congress is corrupt, what are you doing? They break people of our party..."

Speaking in Sujapur of Malda district, Kharge also asked, “Did you get 20 crore jobs (in 10 years)? That’s a lie. Did you receive Rs 15 lakh in your bank accounts? Did they double the income of farmers? That’s a lie too. I can’t believe that the Prime Minister of a country can lie so much.”

Amit Shah during his rally in Andhra Pradesh stated, "In Andhra Pradesh, BJP, Jan Sena, TDP are jointly fighting corruption, crime, mafia and conversion. In the two phases of election, Modi ji has made a century and moved ahead. In the third phase, we will move towards '400 paar'".

"We came into alliance to end rule of goondas and criminals," he added targeting YSRCP rule in the state.

He said the alliance aims to "end rampant corruption and sand mafia" in AP.

Further speaking of his predictions from the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Shah said, "Today I am telling you the whole country has decided to make Modi ji Prime Minister for the third time." He also added, "in the third phase, Narendra Modi is inching towards getting over 400 seats."

Amit Shah also exclaimed, "None of INDIA bloc leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, were fit to be PM."

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during an election rally in Nirmal, Telangana, said, "This election is being fought between two ideologies. The Congress is trying to save Constitution. On the other hand, BJP is trying to finish it. Whatever the poor of the country got after independence, it is because of the Constitution. The BJP leaders have directly said that they will finish the Constitution. If it is finished, the reservation will be finished. BJP wants pichde, dalit and adivasis should remain marginalised. They only work for 22 rich people. He has waived their 16 lakh crore. The amount is same as money of 24 years of MNREGA."

Adding, "We will resolve the land issues of Adivasis. We will protect your rights of water, forest and land. I came to know that MNREGA is required here. You get 250 rupees, we will extend it to 400 rupees. We will double the income of ASHA, Anganwadi workers."

Further slaming BJP, he claimed , "PM Narendra Modi is against reservations. He wants to snatch away your reservations."

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav addressing an election rally in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, said, “There is inflation on everything, including medicines, due to the donations they (BJP) took through Electoral bonds. Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Vikar Rasool Wani on Sunday targeted BJP over Poonch terror attack saying, “BJP leaders in their speeches claim that after the abrogation of Article 370, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved, but these kinds of attacks show that their claims are just hollow. The Congress party wants peace in Jammu and Kashmir. They have failed in providing safety to the people and bringing peace here.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday targeted INDIA-bloc saying both "Samajwadi Party and Congress are contesting elections for their future and that of their children."

During a rally in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah, Modi said, "SP leaders instigated people against Covid vaccine, got themselves vaccinated in secret."

He added, "Slogans of Samajwadi Party and Congress are lies, their intentions are also not good. Samajwadi Party and Congress work only to benefit their families and their vote banks."

He also said, "...Some people consider Mainpuri, Kannauj and Etawah as their heritage, while others consider Amethi-Rae Bareli as their heritage. But Modi's legacy is- the Pucca House of the poor, toilets that are being given to crores of women, Dalits and backward classes get electricity, houses, and water, the poor get free ration, free treatment, children got a new education policy..."

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said, "As soon as the Amarnath Yatra ends, mark my words, elections will be held in J&K. We have been ready for years. They were not ready."

In his reaction on Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's statement that 'PoK will be merged with India', JKNC Chief Farooq Abdullah on Sunday, "If the defence minister is saying it then go ahead. Who are we to stop. But remember, they (Pakistan) are also not wearing bangles. It has atom bombs, and unfortunately, that atom bomb will fall on us."

Addressing a public meeting in Hyderabad, Telangana, Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah on Sunday said, "Two phases of elections have concluded. In the two phases PM Modi has made a century and moved forward. In the third phase, we will reach around 200 and by the time voting will be held in Telangana, BJP will cross 250. BJP has increased their vote share in every election in Telangana. In 2014, we got only one seat, in 2019 we got four seats and in 2024 we will get more than ten seats..."

On her resignation from Congress, Congress National Media Coordinator Radhika Khera on Sunday said, "Shri Ayodhya Dham, the birthplace of Ram Lalla, is a very sacred place for all of us and I could not stop myself from going there. BJP national president JP Nadda on Sunday released party's manifesto for Odisha Assembly Elections 2024.

The Assembly elections will be held in Odisha in four phases from May 13 to June 1 along with the Lok Sabha elections.
