Zac Efron Pays A Tribute To ‘17 Again’ Co-Star Matthew Perry After Receiving His Star At The Hollywood Walk Of Fame
Zac Efron took to the stage to thank people after receiving his own star at the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. One of the first ones he decided to thank was none other than his ‘17 Again’ co-star Matthew Perry, who passed away a few months back.
While giving his speech after receiving his Hollywood Walk Of Fame, Zac Efron, said, “I want to mention someone who is not here today, and that is Matthew Perry, who was so generous and kind to me while we worked on ‘17 Again’. Collaborating with him and director Burr Steers — it was so much fun and really did propel me and motivate me in so many ways. It really pushed me into the next chapter of my career, and for that, thank you so much, Matthew. Thinking about you a lot today.”
Zac Efron mentioned that he was ‘eternally grateful’ to Matthew Perry. Even though the two actors didn’t share screen space together in ‘17 Again’, the two were playing the same character, and therefore they must have spoken a lot with each other to develop the character. Zac Efron mentioning Matthew Perry at such a huge occasion in his life definitely meant that the ‘Friends’ star left a huge impact on the ‘High School Musical’ star’s life.
Matthew Perry’s death was not only traumatic for the fans but many close ones from the film, television, music and sports fraternity have also expressed how they had been impacted by his sudden demise. Matthew Perry passed away after he reportedly drowned in his hot tub at his residence.
Coming back to Zac Efron, the actor also spoke about how he was indebted to the makers of ‘High School Musical’ for giving him his career. “A long time before The Iron Claw, I spent a lot of time with [director] Kenny Ortega and [producer] Bill Borden – you guys were both instrumental in giving my start in ‘High School Musical’ and for that I am eternally grateful,” he said.
“I still think about it every day. I sing the songs in the shower – Go Wild Cats,” he concluded.
