R Balki’s last release as a director was the 2018 release Pad Man with Akshay Kumar. The filmmaker reunited with the star for the 2019 drama Mission Mangal, but as a writer. Now after almost five years, R Balki is finally awaiting the release of his next directorial, titled ‘Chup’, which stars Sunny Deol, Pooja Bhatt, Dulquer Salmaan and Shreya Dhanwanthary.
R Balki On Theory That Bollywood Is Over: Films Flop, Films Don’t Do Well, It Is A Phase That Won’t Last Long
Filmmaker R Balki is all set to make his directorial comeback with his next, ‘Chup’, scheduled to release in cinemas on September 23.
Amid all this, it cannot be ruled out that in this year, only three films really worked at the box-office, including Kartik Aaryan’s ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’, Alia Bhatt’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’. So much so, that people started to think that Bollywood has lost its mojo and is almost on the verge of getting over. Albeit, Ayan Mukerji’s ‘Brahmastra’, which released last week, turned the tables and the Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer has managed to break several records at the box office.?
Now commenting on the same, filmmaker R Balki said that Bollywood is far from being finished, and the industry is simply going through a phase.
“It is rubbish! It is a lovely theory to have, few flops flopped, and people love to write, fill columns and feed. It is entertainment and failures are also entertainment. When success happens, they will have entertainment again and say, ‘The rise and rise of Bollywood’, which will happen very soon,” he said.?
Not to forget, several people have also mentioned that Bollywood is losing its battle to South films, after the blockbuster success of ‘Pushpa’, ‘KGF Chapter 2’ and ‘RRR’. Reacting to the same, R Balki cited the example of ‘Brahmastra’, which took a smashing opening.
“Films flop, films don’t do well, it is a phase. That happens due to various reasons, but this won’t last for too long. As you are already seeing, people are storming the theatres (for Brahmastra). So it will change. This is just another show,” he signed off.?
Balki is known for films like Akshay Kumar’s ‘Pad Man’ and Kareena Kapoor-Arjun Kapoor?starrer ‘Ki & Ka’. His next ‘Chup', is a psychological thriller about a serial killer who carves stars into the bodies of his victims, film critics. The film is slated to release on September 23.
