On December 19, 2023, core backroom staff of ten Indian Premier League teams will assemble in Dubai, aiming to complete their rosters for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 season. A total of 1166 players have registered?for the 'Mini Auction', 830 of those Indian, and 45 of the 336 from outside the country from associate nations. Those listed will go under the hammer to fill 77 spots available between the ten participating teams - Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Kolkata Knight Riders. Chennai Super Kings are the reigning champions, having beaten Gujarat Titans in the 2023 Final; the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team will be aiming to collect a record-extending sixth title when the season gets underway in the early summer days of 2024 yet again. Gujarat, meanwhile, will start the campaign under the captaincy of young Indian batter Shubman Gill, having lost Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians in the trade window preceding the Mini Auction. Pandya led GT to back-to-back finals and a win in their debut season in the competition.?

Other pre-auction trades have seen Cameron Green move from Mumbai to Royal Challengers Bangalore, allowing the former to make space for Pandya on their roster. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants have swapped Devdutt Padikkal and Avesh Khan, each filling a spot in their respective teams that required attention.?
