With 14 points (seven in seven), India have booked a last-four spot in the third successive ODI Cricket World Cup. Sri Lanka, with two wins and five defeats, can only have a maximum of eight points, and it will take a miracle to make the semis. South Africa already have 12 from seven and, Australia and New Zealand have eight each from six and seven games, respectively.

- Madhushanka's figures are the most expensive bowler in terms of runs conceded amongst bowlers who have captured five or more wickets in an innings in the World Cup. The previous record in this category of statistics was held by Mushtafizur Rehman of Bangladesh who had returned with figures of five for 75 against Pakistan at Lord’s on July 5, 2019.

- Madhushanka’s effort was in a losing cause to provide the 18th occasion of a bowler’s five-plus wicket haul in an innings in the World Cup going in vain. It also provided the second occasion of a Sri Lankan bowler’s five-plus haul in the World Cup going in vain.

- Mohammed Shami captured five for 18 in this game to provide the 69th occasion of a bowler capturing five-plus wickets in an innings in the World Cup. It also provides the eighth occasion of an Indian bowler taking five-plus wickets in the World Cup.

- Shami's figures of 5-1-18-5 in this game provided the least number of balls – 30 deliveries – bowled by a bowler for five or more wickets in an innings in the World Cup. The previous record in this category of statistics was held by Glenn McGrath of Australia who had figures of 7-4-15-7 (42 deliveries) against Namibia at Potchefstroom on February 27, 2005.

- Mohammed Shami now has 45 wickets in the World Cup, making him the most successful Indian bowler in the history of the tournament. He went past Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath who had captured 44 wickets each. Shamis is the twelfth bowler to total 40-plus wickets in the World Cup.?

- Shami captured five for 54 against New Zealand at Dharmasala and four for 22 against England at Lucknow and five for 18 against Sri Lanka to provide the fifth occasion of a bowler capturing four or more wickets in an edition on three or more occasions. Others are – Shahid Afridi of Pakistan (four times in the 2011 edition}, Mitchell Starc (four in 2019), Shami (three in 2019) and Adam Zampa (three in 2023).

- Shami is the only bowler in the history of the World Cup to capture four-plus wicket hauls on three occasions in a single edition of the World Cup in two editions. He has achieved the feat in 2019 and 2023.

- Mohammed Shami and Mitchell Starc share the record for most five-wicket hauls in the World Cup. Both the bowlers have captured five or more wicket hauls in an innings in the World Cup on three occasions.

- Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne were dismissed for zero to provide the eighth occasion of both the openers scoring zeroes in an innings in the World Cup. It also provided the second occasion of Sri Lanka’s openers scoring zeroes in a World Cup game.

- Nissanka and Karunaratne were out for the first ball ducks to provide the third occasion of both openers collecting the first ball duck in an innings in the World Cup. It also provided the second occasion of Sri Lanka's openers collecting the first ball ducks in an innings in the World Cup.

- Nissanka and Karunaratne's dismissals marked the 34th and 35th occasion of opening batters collecting the first ball ducks in an innings in the World Cup. It also provided the seventh and eighth occasion of Sri Lankan openers getting out the first ball in a World Cup game.

- Indian opener Shubman Gill scored 92 and Sri Lankan openers Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne scored zeroes in this game to provide the second occasion of one team’s opener scoring a fifty and both the openers of the other team scoring zeroes in a World Cup game.

- Sri Lanka were dismissed for 55 by India to provide the 16th occasion of a team getting all out for a total of less than 100 runs in an innings in the World Cup. It also provided the second occasion of Sri Lanka getting less than 100 runs in the World Cup.

- Sri Lanka’s 55 all out represented their lowest total in a completed innings in the World Cup. Its previous lowest total was 86 all out against the West Indies in Manchester on June 7, 1975.

- Sri Lanka lost their first wicket without a run on the board to provide the 53rd occasion of a team losing their first wicket without a run on the board in the World Cup. It also provided the third occasion of Sri Lanka losing their first wicket without a run in the World Cup. This was the fourth occasion of a team losing their first wicket without a run in the World Cup against India.

- India won this game by 302 runs to provide the 80th occasion of a team winning a World Cup game by a 100-plus run margin. It also provided the tenth occasion of India winning a World Cup game by a 100-plus run margin.

- The winning margin is India's biggest in the World Cup. Their previous best was 257 runs against Bermuda at Port of Spain on March 19, 2007. This marked the second occasion of a team winning a World Cup game by a 300-plus run margin. The other occasion was Australia’s 309-run win against the Netherlands in Delhi on October 25, 2023.
