Asked to bat first, India got off to a flier with skipper Rohit Sharma (31 off 20) and promoted Rishabh Pant (26 off 15) posting 49 runs for the opening stand. The visitors then lost quick wickets, including Virat Kohli (1 off 3). But Ravindra Jadeja held the innings together with a very fine 46 off 29 as India reached 170/8. Debutant Richard Gleeson got three wickets for 15, whole Chris Jordan got four for 27.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar then gave India a dream start, removing Jason Roy with the very first delivery. The pacer also got Jos Buttler, again. And England never recovered even though Moeen Ali (35 off 21) and David Willey (33 not out off 22) did play two crucial knocks.
