The child was successfully rescued around 2.45 am after a team of experts worked tirelessly to dig a parallel pit to reach her, but despite initial hopes, her condition worsened during the journey to the Civil Hospital at Pachore.

A four-year-old girl, identified as Mahi, who fell into a borewell in Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh district on Tuesday, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Bhopal early Wednesday morning.

Ravi Kumar, the father of the deceased child confirmed her death and told PTI, "She fell into the borewell at around 5 pm yesterday. The rescue team reached the spot at 6-6.30 pm and they were able to rescue her by 2 am in the night. However, she died while she was being taken to hospital."

The child was successfully rescued around 2.45 am after a team of experts worked tirelessly to dig a parallel pit to reach her, but despite initial hopes, her condition worsened during the journey to the Civil Hospital at Pachore.

Consequently, Mahi was transferred to the state-run Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, approximately 70 km away, where she tragically passed away during treatment around 6 am, as told by Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Kiran Wadia.

The authorities have announced that the body will undergo an autopsy before being handed over to the child's grieving relatives.

Mahi's fall into the open borewell occurred in a field on Tuesday evening at Pipliya Rasoda village under Boda police station limits. The rescue operation involved a team of experts digging a parallel pit to a depth of about 25 feet, as the child was stuck at 22 feet.

Rajgarh Superintendent of Police Dharmaraj Meena told the media that Mahi was successfully rescued after?two pits were connected but faced a deteriorating health condition en route to the hospital.

The State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) personnel were on the scene, providing essential support, including arrangements to supply oxygen inside the borewell shaft. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had earlier directed officials to dispatch teams from SDERF and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to aid in the rescue operation, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
