Delhi: 46Lakh Subsidized Power Connections To End Today, AAP Accuses LG Saxena Of Withholding File

Atishi said during a press conference that she had sought a five-minute appointment with Saxena to discuss the issue of power subsidy, but received no response from the LG.

The subsidized power connection to around 46 lakh people in the national capital will end today, announced Delhi Government. The subsidy will cease due to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena not clearing the file to extend the subsidy to consumers, they said.

“The subsidy we give to 46 lakh people will stop from today. From Monday onwards, people will get inflated bills without subsidy," Delhi Power Minister Atishi said during a press conference.

"This subsidy is stopped because AAP government has taken the decision to continue subsidy for the coming year, but that file is with Delhi LG and till the file doesn't come back," she added.

Atishi also claimed that she had sought a five-minute appointment with Saxena to discuss the issue of power subsidy, but received no response from the LG.

The AAP government in Delhi provides up to 200 units of monthly consumption to consumers. Those with 201 to 400 units of monthly power consumption requirements?get a 50 per cent subsidy capped at ? 850.

In 2022, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that a power subsidy would be given to only those who apply for it. As per official figures, over 48 lakh among more than 58 lakh domestic consumers applied for power subsidies.

The AAP has government allocated a budget of ? 3250 crore for power subsidy for 2023-24.
